Everyone on Svalbard is required to carry a rifle -- in case of polar bear attacks. Since it's cheaper to rent a rifle than to hire an armed guard, I'm getting certified as a marksman. Marksperson. Whatever.
Today I learned safety and technique and fired off a box of 30-06 - big bullets, they give a big kick. Happy to say all my shots hit the target.
